Volkswagen is getting their Jersey Shore on by designing an Italian-flavored taxi concept, the Milano EV. The all-electric, 3300-pound Milano Taxi made it's debut today at a trade show in Hanover, Germany.
The body is wrapped in an Italian-inspired green with black paint, along with a red and white stripe that wraps around the beltline. VW said that the Milano Taxi EV has a maximum speed of 74 MPH and a range of 186 miles.
Powering the rear wheels is a 113-horsepower electric motor that gets its juice from a quick-charging lithium-ion battery pack. It charges so quick that 80% of the battery is full after about one hour.
The Milano Taxi concept has three doors, no front passenger seat, and a panormaic glass roof. VW said that the forward sliding, passenger-side door was designed for safer curbside entry and exit. They also didn't include a front passenger seat to create extra cargo room (and also because no one enjoys riding shotgun in a cab).
This electric Milano Taxi is pretty techie too. The Volkswagen concept has two eight-inch screens, one for the driver and the other for passengers, showing them how much money will be leaving their pockets and to search maps.
theCD's take: Just like Snooki and The Situation, the VW Milano Taxi EV concept isn't really Italian.
