Mitsubishi and the NHTSA are recalling the 2010 Mitsubishi Galant and 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV.

Over 2,300 2010 model year Mitsubishi Galant sedans are being recalled because the oil cooler pipe assembly on some vehicles may have insufficient plating to prevent corrosion. If the pipe does corrode and develop a hole, transmission fluid will leak out.

This could be a fire hazard if an ignition source is present as well as cause transmission failure if the transmission fluid level is low.

Mitsubishi dealers will inspect the oil cooler pipe assembly and replace it if there is insufficient plating. The repair will be performed for free.

As for the Mitsubishi Endeavor, over 56,000 of the 2004 model year are being recalled because of corrosion that could occur to the fuel filler pipe from road salt. Therefore, only vehicles registered in areas where there are winters that require the use of road salt are affected.

The road salt can get trapped between a reinforcing bracket and the fuel filler pipe. Over time, corrosion could occur and fuel could leak out of the pipe while the vehicle is being refueled.

This could result in a fire in the presence of an ignition source, and therefore Mitsubishi dealers will replace the pipe with an improved design for free.

Mitsubishi owners can contact the company at (1-800-222-0037) for more information.
