In a press release on Wednesday, GM announced the beginning of the end for HUMMER.
It's been about a year since GM announced they were going to sell HUMMER to Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines. However, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China rejected Tengzhong's bid to purchase Hummer from General Motors (I'm sure they have plenty of knockoffs already).
Without any other potential buyers, HUMMER will go the way of Saturn and Pontiac. John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances, said, "GM will now work closely with HUMMER employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner."
Current HUMMER drivers need not worry, as GM will continue to honor warranties and provide support and spare parts to owners around the world.
