The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the redesigned Sonata with the prestigious Top Safety Pick award after passing their front, side, rear, rollover tests with grace.

The 2011 Sonata is a curvy, coupe-like four-door with a luxury aura to anyone that lays eyes on it.  It comes with features to help a driver avoid a crash, as well as airbags and high-strength steel to help lessen bodily injury if a crash is unavoidable. Hyundai was the first automaker to make stability control standard on the Sonata when it was redesigned in 2006, and the standard safety feature list only continues to grow.

With a low base-price, a long list of standard equipment, emotional styling, and efficient engines, we can't see how Hyundai could have built a better car.

theCD's take: Surprisingly, neither the Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry are Top Safety Picks.
