Though some believe change reached the United States on November 4th, 2008, there is now reason to believe that change reached our shores on January 29th, 2010. Lost in the hubbub and rhetoric following the President's "State of the Union" address was a game changing set of environmental standards set-forth by the President.
Late last week, the White House released a statement that the government will cut its emissions 28% by 2020. The President hopes that by cutting the government's emissions levels that it will set an example for citizens, businesses, and other countries to cut their emissions as well.
The cut will be achieved by 35 federal agencies finding cleaner ways to do business, from logistical changes, to cleaner vehicles, and investments in greener forms of energy. The President is also putting pressure on congress by urging them to pass a bill that would cut emissions by 17% from 2005 levels.
