Toyota said today that they've come up with a solution to the disastrously over-hyped recall that affected millions of vehicles around the world. The remedy is for a sticking accelerator pedal recall that affects eight Toyota models and the Pontiac Vibe.

Parts to reinforce the pedals are on their way to dealers and dealers are currently being trained on how to install the fix. Toyota is serious about saving the loyalty of its customers and has asked dealers to stay open for extended hours, and even 24 hours a day.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and reliability of the vehicles our customers drive," said Jim Lentz, President and Chief Operating Officer of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. He released a video today where he sincerely apologized to all Toyota owners.

"I know that our recalls have caused many of you concern... and for that ... I am truly sorry," said Lentz.

Toyota pointed out that all Camry, RAV4, Corolla and Highlander vehicles with Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) that begin with a "J" are not affected by the accelerator pedal recall. That letter means it was manufactured in Japan.

Separately from the recall for sticking accelerator pedals, Toyota is in the process of recalling Toyota and Lexus models to address the rare instance where a floor mat causes the pedal to get stuck. They're already notifying customers about how it will fix the issue, and will fix both on models that are affected by both recalls.

theCD's take: Toyota has taken quite a beating lately in the news world, but it looks like the automaker is putting in all of their effort to make things right again. We're sure this media mania will die down very soon.
