Kia Motors is down at Daytona Speedway this week, as they announced at the North American International Auto Show that two Forte Koup race cars will be competing in this year's GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season in the Street Tuner Class.

They unfortunately ran into some problems today while doing practice runs with car #10, which was better than finding out when actually competing. The hood flew open and off the Forte because hood vibrations caused the "hood pin" to shear.

Kia says that other than that, the drivers were pleased with the cars.

By 6pm, everything was winding down and a new hood and windshield were being installed on car #10. SPEED TV was there to capture the event, so it'll be great to see footage of the Forte's pushing the envelope.

Forte Koup #10 is being co-driven by Andy Lally and Nic Jönsson, while the #12 car is in the hands of 2007 GRAND-AM ST champions Trevor Hopwood and Adam Burrows. Kia says that both cars have the stock 2.4L engine and 6-speed manual that the Forte SX comes with.

theCD's take: Taking a hot car and having fun with it, that's what we like to see!
