The NAIAS Chevrolet reveal session got right down to business. We briefly jammed to Chevy-inspired techno for a few moments and some short words from GM's VP of Marketing, Jim Campbell. Then three new Chevy compacts flew out of the screen onto the stage, one of them being the 2010 Chevrolet Cruze. The car is expected to serve the brand as a smaller sedan alternative to the Malibu, a midsize-compact.

The US-bound Chevy Cruze will sport either a 1.8L I-4 or 1.4L turbocharged Ecotec engine on higher-end models. A 6-speed automatic or manual transmission are available options. ABS and 10 airbags come standard and the Cruze will be manufactured in Lordstown, Ohio.

The headlights on the Cruze reflect the agressive style featured on many new cars these days. A sporty stance gives the car a fun presence. Alloy wheels complete the package.

The interior also doesnt skimp on the details. Plenty of textures and materials add interest. A quality, shiny plastic called 'black chrome' accents the dash and control panel. One material doesn't belong inside though. The nylon web fabric on the dashboard and doors looks to have been ripped off a backpack. Everywhere else, there is a feeling of durability, quality, and strength. Even the headliner feels like a quality knit polo.

Storage galore in the Cruze leaves plenty of nooks for knick knacks, electronics, and CD's for you old-fashioned folks. The cavernous glove box seems designed to hold plenty more than gloves. The trunk is perfect for a load of luggage, a few golf bags, or some whacked mafiosos.

GM chairman Bob Lutz said it better than anyone, "Nobody needs more car than this. You may want more and buy more but this is all you need."

Here is some interesting info: Chevy Cruze has seen success in it’s world challenge debut last year in 2009. The new cruise, piloted by French driver Yvan Muller has taken Chevy back to the podium. Yvan Muller finished off the 2009 season in 2nd place overall in the driver cup. In the manufacturer’s cup Chevrolet took 3rd overall, just on BMW’s heals.

That's really cool ragek. I expect this Euro-transfer to be a huge success here. Finally American auto makers are figuring out that they need to fill out their small car platforms.
