Spy photographers have caught Hyundai's replacement for the Tiburon, the Veloster coupe, out in South Korea.

Based on the Veloster concept shown a few years ago at the Seoul Auto Show, it looks like designers and engineers were able to keep much of the exterior design similar to the concept. Under the hood, Hyundai is expected to put in direct injection and turbo engines, along with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The standard powertrain engine will be a 1.6L, direct-injected engine that puts out over 140 horsepower and achieves upward of 40 mpg. Optional will likely be a turbocharged version of that same engine which produces 175 horsepower.

The Veloster has an expected launch date of 2011, therefore making it a 2012 model year car. We think they're right on track given the spy shots of a near production body.

Since the Genesis Coupe starts at $22,000 we expect the Veloster to start at $16,000 with all of the expected safety equipment, a well made interior, and an eye catching exterior.
