General Motors and the NHTSA are recalling almost 60,000 Equinox and Terrain small SUV's because of a software issue relating to the climate control system.
Both vehicles fail to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards when it comes to windshield defogging and defrosting, and the controls and displays. The software issue can cause the heating, air conditioning, defrost, radio controls, and even illumination of the buttons to not work.
It's not safe to drive without a working defroster system, especially those of us getting hit with snow and ice, so dealers are replacing the computer in the instrument panel for free.
The recall is expected to begin in January and owners are asked to call Chevrolet (1-800-630-2438) and GMC (1-866-996-9463) if they have any questions.
