BMW is recalling 190 2011 BMW 328i xDrive and 335i xDrive cars in the U.S. that were manufacutred from February 2011 through July 2011 because the driveshaft can become completely loose during driving.

"The front driveshaft attachment bolts may not have been tightened to specification," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If the bolts were not tightened to specification, they may become loose. If the bolts loosen, it could lead to a loss of power to the front wheels and ultimately a vehicle breakdown, increasing the risk of a crash."

In other documentation filed with the federal government, BMW said, "The customer may notice a loose driveshaft due to noise or by feeling a vibration coming from the front of the vehicle." It said one vehicle in the U.S. market "may have experienced the condition," but it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the recall.

BMW said it issued a delivery stop on the aforementioned vehicles on September 2.

The recall is expected to begin in October. BMW dealers will remove and replace the front driveshaft attachment bolts on the affected vehicles. Owners can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.
