Kia is recalling 58,322 Spectra vehicles from the 2004-2007 model year that were originally sold, or are currently registered in states where there is prolonged exposure to salt. Kis says that there is a possibility that the straps that hold the fuel tank could corrode from exposure to road salt, and as a result, one or both straps could break.
This means that the fuel tank would fall to the ground and possibly rupture, leaking fuel and creating a fire hazard.
Dealers will replace the straps and attach all-new zinc coated straps instead that will withstand corrosion longer. The service will be performed free of charge, and owners are asked to call Kia at 1-800-333-4542 for more information.
