To date, these are the best shots anyone has of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. Seen camouflaged in the pictures above, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will feature distinctive, new masculine design cues that harken back to the original model that was so popular in the 1960's.

The 2012 Beetle will be about the same size as the outgoing model, but space for the rear seat has been expanded by increasing the wheelbase of the vehicle. Slatted to go on sale in early to mid 2011 as the 2012 model, one can clearly see that this vehicle does not have the near perfect circle roofline as the current Beetle. Though this will cut on headroom, the vehicle should still offer plenty head room for those who are over six feet tall and give it less cartoony aesthetic.

Don't be fooled by the front and rear ends of this prototype, as Volkswagen has merely slapped on the hood and bumpers from the current vehicle. Expect this vehicle to share the same suspension as that seen on the 2011 Jetta, since the two will be built simultaneously in the company's mexican plant.

Expect to see the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show or at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
