Kia has notified the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration that it will be recalling 23,973 Soul and 11,213 Sorento vehicles after identifying potentially faulty soldering in the electrical system.
The specifics safety issue stems from a wiring harness that is used in the cool speaker illumination ring that lights up around the speakers in the Kia Soul when music is playing. A hot feature it is, both literally and figuratively, where a short can occur which could potentially lead to a vehicle fire.
On the Sorento crossover, the interior accent illumination throughout the cabin has the same issue.
To date, Kia believes there have been no injuries or deaths associated with the problem. The automaker will begin inspecting and replacing faulty harnesses this month.
