Mazda is recalling a total of 215,000 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles over a serious issue. Model year 2007-2009 vehicles manufactured from April 2007 through November 2008 have a condition where power steering loss can suddenly occur.
Mazda says that if power steering assist is lost suddenly and the ability to steer becomes more difficult, this could lead to a crash.
The automaker has a remedy for the problem but because of a parts shortage, won't begin notifying customers until around September 15, 2010. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500 for more information.
