Further proving that Volvo can build vehicles that are sexy and sporty, Volvo has just introduced its new V60 sport wagon. Based on their "naughty" new S60 sedan, the V60 has the same front end and, for a wagon, an almost coupe-like rear end.

Out back, we can see that Volvo has added light piping that is similar in style to that seen on the Volvo XC60, though it is better executed here. The 2011 V60 also features a rear glass hatch that is similar to that seen on the company's smaller C30 hatchback.

Volvo has given buyers the opportunity to customize their V60 by offering a variety of wheels, skid plates, and exhaust pipes. Even more interesting, is that Volvo will be offering this car in 15 vibrant color options, though state-side we probably won't get that many.

Volvo has also stated that they will offer about eight different engine options, though here in the states we will initially get the 304 horsepower engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. We may also get the fuel-sipping 115 horsepower DRIVe model as well.

The 2011 Volvo V60 finally has finally given us a reason to want a station wagon.

Update: Though this is probably the sexiest station wagon on the planet, Volvo will not be offering it in the United States.

Not for US market. We sold 1,816 V70 wagons last year. We couldn't give them away last year. In 2001 we sold about 17,000 V70's. With intro of XC70, XC90 and XC60 soccer mom's have shifted away from V70's. IMHO our current V70 is an elegent wagon, as is V60, but buyers want more than good looks.

Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!

DJ, I'm sorry but you could not be more wrong I think on this point. You seem to be a little too close to the brand to see it as consumers do. Here's my feedback.

The boxy mediocre handling wagons are NOT what people want. Why? Because they are the epitome of uncool. For a wagon to "win" over a crossover it has to handle, brake, and accelerate better, and cost a little less. Yours have not to a sufficient degree. Why go for less space and lose the high-up visability seating position if one does not get much better handling in the trade?

The new V60, on the other hand, is fast, handles and brakes well, and looks amazing. (better than the sedan). If you look around staid station wagons are mostly gone. Sport wagons are where the growth will be, especially as gas prices continue to rise. Sedans are fine for commutes, but go on a trip and you're effectively limited to 4 persons and luggage. forget bringing pets or a lot of luggage.

Also, in my experience in Atlanta, the product mix on lots sucks. You find either base models w/o options or close to fully loaded versions that can add $6,000 of options to an already well equipped vehicle (xc60 r design, for example) and you can't find a passion red one of those in the pipeline even though that's the only color in the ads for that model. Huh?

I was told "volvo buyers don't like bright red". Well guess what, Volvo buyers aren't buying enough Volvos. You need BMW, Infiniti, Audi, and Mercedes buyers to buy volvos. And you will not do that with bland vehicles or loaded up ones that cost as much as the other brands.

Actually, I think you need Subaru Outback owners like me to buy Volvos, and I would be ready to purchase the V60 PHEV in a flash if it is offered as a diesel hybrid on the U.S. market with the kind of specs cited in the articles I have read. Subaru has made no effort to bring a high-mileage wagon the this country. Please tell me that the V60 will be available here in the near future. I need a new car and this one would fit the bill.
