For those of you who haven't been off campus lately, you are in for a pleasant surprise the next time you go to fill up your gas tank. The national average for regular unleaded has fallen to a pleasing $2.72 today, down nearly a whole dollar from last month's average of $3.66. "We've never seen local gas prices come down this fast in such a short period," says Jeffrey Spring, a spokesman for the Automobile Club of Southern California. This is good news for college students, many of whom will be heading home for Thanksgiving in about a month. Since drops like this never seem to last forever, we recommend going out and taking advantage of the low prices while they are still around. We also recommend visiting GasBuddy.com to check for the lowest prices in your area, which are reported by volunteer "spotters."
