We received an update from Suzuki today regarding the strange recall for the lower storage compartment in the center console. Suzuki says they notified the NHTSA of the issue with the center lower box door, and is implementing a recall to address the concern.
Suzuki says, "The issue is that the center lower box door can come open in the event of a severe collision. As our customers' safety is our top priority, we are working quickly to resolve the issue."
The automaker reported that replacement boxes are on their way to dealers, and both customer vehicles and those in dealer inventory will be refitted as quickly as the replacement boxes arrive and customers make their vehicles available. The replacement boxes have the same appearance as the original boxes, but are fitted with an improved latch.
Suzuki reiterated once again that, "our customers' safety is our top priority, and we apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause."
theCD's take: We're glad to see Suzuki take prompt action over what seems like such a minor issue, and it definitely bolsters our confidence in the brand if there were every a more "serious" issue.
