Subaru is recalling 70,000 of their Legacy and Outback vehicles from the 2010 model year to replace the steering column electrical roll connector. The issue stems from a broken wire in the connector that can cause problems with the function of the airbag, CVT paddle shifters, the horn, and even the steering-wheel-mounted radio controls.
According to e-mail correspondance between Edmund's Inside Line and Subaru, the probelm was discovered by Subaru themselves and there were no reports of injuries. The spokeswoman says that the recall will be "quick fix" and she urges owners of vehicles with VINs in the following range to get their Subaru checked out."
For 2010 Legacy vehicles: VIN# A*210001 through A*2444529
For 2010 Outback vehicles: VIN# A*310001 through A*377827
The College Driver reported on a recall of the two vehicles back in mid-May over a cooler hose for the continuously-variable transmission. Owners of the Subaru Legacy and Outback can call Subaru at 1-800-782-2783 for more information.
