These are the first official photos we've seen of the 2011 Ford Explorer. Teased on Facebook's Ford Explorer fan page, we can now confirm that the Ford Explorer closely resembles the Ford Explorer concept we saw a few years ago.
In other spy photos, we saw that the 2011 Ford Explorer had conventional halogen refractor-style headlights, but from these images, we can at least see that there will be a projector headlight option; we are assuming that these will be xenon beams. What is interesting is the location where the pictures of the next Ford Explorer were taken.
This new Explorer is a more car-based model, which theoretically means that it should have limited off-road capability. But maybe Ford has stiffened up the body and provided for additional ground clearance so that the vehicle can cross rugged terrain.
The 2011 Ford Explorer will be the first Ford Explorer that is made from unibody construction, which replaces the outgoing model's body-on-frame construction. According to the Facebook group, there will be more images of the 2011 Ford Explorer coming soon.
We look forward to seeing the new 2011 Ford Explorer in our test fleet sometime before the end of the year.
