Nissan is coming close to Toyota with the number of vehicles they've recalled in the past year. Just search "Nissan recall" on The College Driver and you'll see how many stories we've written for recalled Nissan vehicles. This week they are recalling over 41,000 of their SUVs and pick-up trucks because of a welding problem in the steering system. The 2010 Nissan Armada, Frontier, Pathfinder, Titan, Xterra, and Infiniti QX56 are all face the same issue.

The lower control link assembly of the steering column has two cylindrical collars forming the inboard attachment points to the chassis. Due to an improper welding process, some collars may contain welds that do not meet strengths specifications. If the collar weld separates, the vehicle handling will deteriorate, and possibly result in a crash.

Nissan says that it will notify owners starting June and will repair vehicles free of charge. No word though on how they will do it. Owners of the affected vehicles can contact Nisan at 1-800-647-7261 for more information.
