I'm just not a big fan of rap. Sure, I'll give Beastie Boys a whirl, perhaps even hit up a Snoop Dogg concert, if only for the novelty. Other than that, it's a rare occurrence that I actually listen to a rap song all the way through, an even rarer one that I admit to liking the song and proceed to take advantage of its free download. Here we have one of those rarer instances.
Introducing Grynch, a relatively unknown rapper from the northwest building his street-cred [shameless pun intended] on all the car blogs and news sites with his song, My Volvo. It may just be about a lowly 240 DL wagon, previous staple of the Soccer Mom, but Grynch loves his beater to the point of gathering all his hipster friends to help deliver a masterful ballad about its unique quirks and personality. The videography alone makes this a clip worth watching.
With an amazing hook and catchy, if barely intelligible, chorus -Tank on empty, whippin' my mama's Volvo- this guy was destined for Youtube stardom. If you like this song enough, it is available at his site for free download. All his songs are for sale at the iTunes store and on Amazon as well. Just a warning, this is an album worthy of one of those parental advisory warnings so if expletives bother you, you probably shouldn't watch. To everyone else, enjoy!
