The Chevy Volt is truly a new age automotive marvel. It marks GM's first attempt at marketing a separate electric-powered model since the ill-fated EV-1 prototype debuted in the last millennium. With their baby just nearing completion, you can be handed the keys- for a brief albeit exclusive test drive.
GM has teamed up with Wired.com for what the tech website is calling the Wired Volt Challenge. Entry to the challenge is free and requires a concise two minute video submission describing how you use technology to diminish your personal carbon-footprint. Post the video on Youtube [or any linkable web video host] and send the site the link along with your name and a short description. Sweepstakes SOP require you to be a drivers-license equipped US resident over the age of 18 to enter.
Four lucky, not to mention eco-minded, winners will receive all-expense paid trips for themselves and a friend each to the Motor city courtesy of the Bowtie. There, the chosen few will get a behind the scenes look at the engineering process that built the new Volt. Design, production and testing will be key points of the VIP tour. After that, participants will be allowed to fling the Volt along GM's corporate test track. And possibly the best part, after it's all said and done you get to fly back home and brag to your snooty hybrid driving friends.
Sure, a free trip to Detroit may not be a dream vacation for most, but to any devoted follower of the automotive industry, the experience can easily be likened to the time Charlie got to visit Mr. Wonka. Extra points if you hit an Oompa Loompa.
Hurry up and shoot your video. Submissions are only accepted until the 15th- that's this Saturday. Winners are announced June 7th. For complete rules and the entry form, visit the Wired Volt Challenge page.
