You love the idea of an electric car. But let's say you didn't play it safe a few times and you have little Johnny and baby Jane on the way. You couldn't possibly fit two car seats, a double stroller, and extra diapers in the upcoming Chevy Volt. Luckily GM has developed a solution.
Introducing the Chevy Volt MPV5 electric concept. It does everything the Volt sedan does, but with more room so little Johnny's legs won't be kicking the back of your seat. GM execs say the MPV5 concept "takes the efficient design of the Chevrolet Volt and adapts it to the family vehicle crossover segment." And who can pass up an extra 30.5 cubic feet of cargo space?
With the rear seats folded down, that's a total of 62.3 cubic feet compared to the Volt sedan's 10.6. The crossover's larger size gives more comfort, but at the cost of range. On a single electric charge of the 16-kWh lithium-ion battery, the MPV5 can only travel up to 32 miles, compared to the 40+ mile range of the Volt sedan.
However, since it utilizes the same extended-range system as the Volt sedan, the onboard 1.4-liter engine can take you and your four passengers another 300 miles before you'll need to recharge.
The MPV5 does well for itself in the looks department too. Borrowing heavily from the aerodynamic body of the Volt sedan, the MPV5 concept fits in nicely with today's contemporary designs. An aggressive, closed front fascia with an "aero-optimized" lower air dam not only looks great, but helps to improve fuel efficiency. Narrow, creased tail lights and a small roof spoiler round out the rear of the MPV5, giving the crossover a distinctive look. Inside, dual skylight panels over the front and rear of the cabin will keep baby Jane quiet as she stares at the clouds above.
The Chevy Volt MPV5 looks like a concept that might just see production in a few years. It fits snugly in the crossover class while at the same time offering the benefit of zero emissions for a limited range.
The Volt MPV5 is currently making its debut at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.

Looks cool and has potential. Now, is it the MPV5 or MP5V? Proofreading is a skill.
Tim, everywhere in the article and title it says MPV5. What's the problem?
Keep up the good work, I like your writing.
Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
